Data Science Exchange (DSE)

The CDSSI Data Science Exchange (DSE) is an ecosystem that enables meaningful partnerships between the social sector and the broader data science community. The larger objective of DSE is to enable better, faster, and more contextually relevant innovations in the sector through data science.

Why we are doing this

Many social sector organisations have years of data through their on-ground work. And while this data has the potential to drive impact at scale, it remains underutilised. One of the reasons is the shortage of data science talent, along with systemic barriers to entry such as lower compensation structures and lack of sector-specific orientation.

The DSE seeks to address this gap by building a structured and sustainable platform for collaboration that enables better implementation of data and data science.

Who we will work with

Social Purpose Organisations (SPOs)

We can help you understand and utilise your data better.

Data Science Professionals

We create opportunities for you to engage with the social sector.

What we will do

The DSE has three main objectives:

  • Enable structured engagement between SPOs and the data science community, enhancing the ability of SPOs to leverage their data for programmatic and strategic decision-making.
  • Provide targeted learning pathways for SPOs and data science practitioners to build their capacity & skills.
  • Create open-source, replicable models and guidelines for data science engagement in development management.

Proof of Concept: CDSSI’s Partnership
with Child Rights and You (CRY)

For the first Data Modelling project, CDSSI has officially partnered with Child Rights and You (CRY). This project aims to help CRY leverage their existing data by enabling them to access specific data science solutions that address their unique needs.

ISDM CDSSI Data Maturity Assessment Key outcomes

CRY is an established organisation with decades of data from their grassroots experience. CDSSI is helping them:

  • Analyse their historical data
  • Identify gaps to make data more actionable
  • Explore predictive models for future interventions
  • Build their capacity to use data models independently

This initiative is supported by Dr Anand Rao, a Professor of Applied Data Science & AI at Carnegie Mellon University and the Chair of CDSSI’s Advisory Council.
